The WSSoBC feels the creation of a National Park Reserve in the South Okanagan is not in the best interest of the Wild Sheep in that area.

The Wild Sheep Society of BC is proud to have partnered with WSF, BC Parks, MOE and Collingwood Bros Outfitting to restore critical habitat for Stone Sheep in Northwestern BC.
The Sheep herd in question is located on the Spatsizi Plateau and has dropped from approx 180 animals in 1992 to less than 30 in 1999-2000 (BC Parks survey). The local Outfitter completed a partial burn in the area several years ago with positive results, however the population still remains well below historic levels.
The burn took place in late May with close to 3000 hectares of sheep habitat being burnt off. The burn went extremely well, with no unintended areas being burnt off. Test plots are now under way to determine time lines for the remaining 5000 hectares to be burnt. The expectation at this time is for a similar type burn to take place next year. We have a number of upcoming projects in region six that we are working on.
We will keep you updated on this exciting venture in helping the Wild Sheep of BC!
