Spences Bridge Sheep Count

The Wild Sheep Society of British Columbia held its first annual bighorn sheep count at Spences Bridge, British Columbia on November 18 and 19, 2006 in collaboration with the Kamloops office of the Ministry of the Environment.

There were twelve people on Saturday for the count, and four on Sunday. These following are the unofficial results as the ministry has all the sheets for the count. We did count approximately 125 sheep, 1 – class 5 ram, 5 – class 4, 10 – class 3, some unclassified and the balance being ewes, yearlings and lambs. We did not cover all the country and we could not see the top of the mountains due to weather, mainly low cloud.

WSSBC will be coordinating a spring count, but the dates are not set yet. This is your chance to be involved with Sheep management and wild sheep projects, so let’s get involved. Thank you to those who participated in the count. We realize the dates were not the best, as it was the end of deer season in surrounding regions, and expect the dates to change next year.
